before or after track
Just wondering what people's advice might be on when to change fluids. Coming up to 91k on the clock so oil is almost due. But I'll be on track pre 91k. Would I be better changing oil, diff and tranny fluid before track, or after to wash out the grind of the day?
Never used to bother on the Astra as it was serviced frequently enough. |
Definately before track.

Define "almost due". What interval are you using? What type of oil?
Also, after you cook your fluids at a track day, it's a good idea to go ahead and replace them afterwards. |
I'd advise always going to the track with at a minimum fresh engine oil and brake pads. If your trans and diff have more than 10k on the fluid I'd change those too. Always check your lug nut torque specs as well. Very important.

Both?

1k off its 91k interval, with approx 1l every 1000 miles, and changes originally at 9k, last owner was doing 4.5k, so effectively continual oil change. Diff and tranny were done about 8k ago, I'm not a traffic light racer so don't put stresses on the car continually.
Car had petronas When I got it, has had 4l of Castrol edge 0 30 in the last 13 weeks. Would you recommend heavier if I'm going through a lot of oil? Maybe 5 40? North east England so winter temp gets to-5 to-10. |
