I picked up my new 2001 silver/black about two weeks ago. I paid $33K, but didn't have to wait (upstate NY).

The manual says to keep it below 5500 rpm for the first 600 miles. I'm about half way there, but it's tough to do. What has everybody done for break in?

Mostly everybody has followed Honda's advice and kept it under 6,000 for the first 600. If you slip briefly over a few times, no damage will be done, but be patient and wait.

Also like everybody else, as soon as I hit 600 I VTECed it immediately. Now I spend as much time on the long side of 6000 RPM as I did on the short side during the break in.

Dang, how come you guys didn't welcome me like that? Is it my cologne...I'll change it! I slipped a few times while breaking my stook in, but the car runs flawlessly...and you can bet your ass as soon as the 600 mile was crossed the was heard a tremendous "whippeeeeee"...and I'm not even a redneck...hehe. 800 miles on my odo now...just be careful on the downshifts dude.

Also Brad, keep an eye on your oil level during the break-in period, it's not unusual for the engine to consume some then. My S2K has 500 miles on it and I just noticed it was down about a half-quart, which I promptly refilled.

Yours came with a top, honda_s2k? I've got to reread that manual.

As for winter, the S2K (topless) rules. It is way safer than a motorcycle on icy, snowy roads!

Congrats Brad. I'm more in love with the silver/black choice than ever, even though it is "common." I zainoed and covered today and the silverstone metalic is definitely the most sparkly paint.

My purchase date was 4 November, but snow has limited my miles. I've only got 535 miles on the odometer. I guarantee it will not melt or burn or turn to salt if you peak into redline territory before 600 miles. Break it in thoroughly and remember it may be 5000 miles before everything is broken in and happy.

Vary the throttle, and don't change the oil before 3750mi no matter how dirty you think it is. As was mentioned, check the oil level frequently.
