just a question regarding waxing on an S2000. I don't know if this has been visited before, but I think I'll just ask...
Orbital buffer on a S2000. Is it recommended? I've heard that on a car with curved surfaces, the buffer can "burn" the paint.

PLease don't touch that beautiful car with any kind of buffer. Buy some Zaino. It comes off like spreading melted butter. No elbow grease and the finish looks like glass.

It could be that our local detailers don't know what they're doing, but everytime I have them work their dark magic on one of my black cars they leave buffing marks. These marks are usually obscured by the anti swirl coat they put on, but then when you wash it, you can see the pad marks. I think it is because they cannot keep the plane of the buffer pad parallel to the surface of the car. I do mine by hand.

I agree with wirejock on the hand buffing of this car. I feel that the more personal I make the upkeep, the more in tune I am with any imperfections that might develop. (stone chips :D or scuff marks from orange cones :D )

I haven't used Zaino, but I use Finish First, and that goes on with little effort as well, and gives a great result.

Try the Zaino. If you want the group buy info from the "other" forum, I can e-mail it. I doubt Sal will mind. My wife has a black Accord V6 and the Z5 really works great to hide any imperfections. Follow up with several coats of Z2 and WOW. It looks like it's wet all the time.

Do not use a buffer on your car unless you are particularly adept at it.

Pros usually buff a car in 2 stages before applying wax by hand. They also use some kind of lubricant as well as the polishing compound.

I had my girlfriend's Civic done on Saturday and it is gleaming like a new pin. It was worth paying for. If you do pay for it make sure they wash the car between polishing and waxing. Yes...believe it or not ... some panel shops do this.

I agree that Zaino is the best. It takes all of 90 minutes to wash, polish the car, put leather treatment on the interior and dress trhe tires and my silver/black always turns heads.

I would never use a buffer for the same reason I only wax in straight motions instead of circles. If by chance you do happen to contaminate your pad or rag, the worst possible shape for the micro fine scratch is a circle because it can be seen from any angle

The swirls that you get from a polisher are actually scratches. Once I realised this, my buffer went into the trash and I have used finish first applied by hand ever since and am very pleased.
