exactly this^. the bumper will need to be scuffed all over for the respray of the clear coat at minimum. the respray of the base coat really depends on if it needs to be done.

I'm not sure where everyone is getting these low estimates from... I'll check a couple more shops and report back. I'm located in Seattle area FYI.

You might be better off buying a new bumper cover and having it painted, keep your original if the VIN is present. Most of the cost is the labor to repair the chips and I think a new cover is around $300, the paintwork should also be around $300. Good luck man!

Here in expensive NY, I had my old damageless bumper painted for $350 by a high-end shop for reference.

Since yours has some damage, it requires extra labor in preparation but I it still doesn't justify those prices.

@sndttan88 - I'd love to know what you decided, as well as the body shop you chose. I'm also in the Seattle area and can confirm that body work is not cheap up here!

Still want maybe 1-2 more quotes, but I'll keep you posted.
Still on the fence of just purchasing a new OEM bumper and having that painted and keeping this in storage...

Yeah, I'm not sure where people are getting quotes for under $500 in this forum, but WA labor ain't cheap. The body shops I got estimates from are located in Bothell area.

If you want another quote, you may want to try Mobile Bumper Lee. I've read that he may be able to do the repair at your house, he has a 5-star rating on Yelp (on 15 reviews), and it looks like he serves the Bothell area.

I haven't used him personally, but may try him out to repair a dent in a car I've recently purchased...
