Bumpy/Rough Paint On Underside Edges Of The S2K?
I have been wondering about this ever since I got my S2K.
Is it some kind of material added with adhesive to the body and front fenders before the paint is applied. Is it part of the body and fender? Is it some type of liquid that's sprayed on before the paint is applied? Can most bodyshops reproduce this? |

It's called "chip guard" or "rock guard" and yes, almost every body shop can do this. It's a kind of "vinylized" paint.
"SOHCmyDOHC", No, it's not the "undercoating" he's talking about. Go take a look at the bottom couple of inches of the paint on the side of the car, below the doors. It's the same color as the rest of the car, but it's kinda bumpy. It's just a rock resistance paint. |
Interesting. I've been wondering what that was too.

It's asphalt based.

judging by how easily my paint gets chipped, they should have painted the whole car with this.... :p

I actually meant to say type of undercoat. My friend had his done on his restored corolla. It's more or less like "undercoating" so to say. It's asphalt based.

Learn something new everyday... I thought this was "orange peel" done on purpose to hide the scratches.
Does this gravel guard have an extra coating, different composition or something? |
