CA legality question - 6 year old in passenger seat okay?
hi all
inquiring if it is okay to have my 6 yo sit in the passenger seat in California?
I just got my 2007 s2k (with only 5100 miles) on it and want to take my oldest for a ride in it.
Thanks in advance!

I'm not in Cali so may not be much help to you but here in WA if the car only has 2 seats, a child can ride up front with you if it's the only option. I've had my 8 year old daughter (who was 7 when I got the s) ride in mine with me. Probably not the safest for a young child so I definitely don't make it a constant habit.

You should try a search engine of your choice: Google, DuckDuckGo, whatever you want. You type in the search you want, and you get the answer. Even if you are out of state! Amazing.

Depending on your child's height and age, he or she may be required to use a child passenger restraint system that is federally approved.
In California, all children under 8 years old must:

In California, all children under 8 years old must:
- Use a child safety seat or booster.
- Ride in the back seat of the vehicle UNLESS:
- The vehicle has no back seats.
- Back seats are side-facing.
- Back seats face to the rear of the vehicle.
- A child safety seat cannot be installed safely in the back seat.

More to it than that. The child seat must be rear facing and CANNOT be in front of an ACTIVE airbag in some circumstances.
As children less than 2 years cannot support their heads, they are to be in rear facing seats until they are 40” and or 40 lbs.
Quote:
A child may not ride in the front seat of an airbag equipped vehicle if they are in a rear-facing child passenger restraint system. Children who are 8 years old or older OR who have reached at least 4 feet 9 inches in height may use a properly secured safety belt meeting federal standards.

I took my grandson for a ride in my S2K by using a booster seat. It sucked. The booster seat sat up on the side bolsters; leaving a gap between the seat cushion and the booster seat. I only did that once and now limit grandchildren (6 yrs and older) rides to the neighborhood without any child seat.

Well, it is a dynamic question. If you look at the first post from the OP, never to hear from again, the answer is an amigous no, unless.....
It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Don’t forget, you live in a normal state. I live in an insane state.
The bottom line is the OP is a troll.
