I couldn't! I'm on an interstate road trip right now (MN to WY, UT, CO and back), I'd never take the trip if I had to drive 55 instread of 82 (75 + 7 over).

I caught myself doing a little over 120 getting on the interstate yesterday.

They can post a 55 sign but I'll still do 70.

This is what happens when you drive 55 mph (speed limit on i-285) in Atlanta. Not good.

I was on I-285 last night and there wasn't one person doing 55. I was going with the flow of traffic at 75-80ish.

[QUOTE=dead-bird,Jul 4 2008, 01:19 PM]... A perfectly horrid example of the Government protecting us from ourselvs.

They have had 30 years to shape energy policy since then and did nothing.

Wow, a republican? What an idiot! I expected him to be a Democrat passing a law that restricts freedoms further and shoves the blame onto the people instead of the government. I guess they've all lost it!

How many lanes does your local highway have? Two to four most likely. You can drive slower to save yourself on gas if you want to. But I guess we need laws to tell us what to do every day.

Hey, I live in a state where you can't talk on your phone while driving because you must be too stupid to do more than one thing at a time. Awesome.

55 if there no gas to go around like in the 70s when there was a shortage, just because its expensive I don't think we should drive slower.

PLUS it was a safety issue. 55MPH in one of those 1970's TANKS with drum brakes and NO suspension (let alone, airbags, ABS, crumple zones, etc, etc.) would be SCARY as hell. I barely notice the speed in a modern car going 70.

The speed limit around here is 65mph. When the highways are busy, we're lucky to maintain 50mph and there is a lot of stop and go (mostly from retarded drivers who floor it and then hit the brakes). If somebody could get us at a constant 55mph, that would be an upgrade.
Well, you and Senator John Asswipe (R-Virginia) can set your limit at 55 as long as you leave the rest of us alone. Then you can write yourselves $1000.00 speeding tickets till the cows come home.
