Thumbs up Can you smell clutch burn?

Is is possible to smell the clutch while driving? I was driving hard today. In 1st gear, I got to 7.5k RPM and shift to 2nd, released the clutch, but didn't get on the throttle right away. The car jerked and dropped to 5k RPM. Afterward, I smelled something, kind of like gun powder. Could it back the clutch?

actually yea, if you let your foot off slowly instead of just letting it up all at once it probably is burnt clutch.

maybe i need a better sense of what gunpowder smells like

If it is the clutch, be gentle on it for the next few hundred miles. Quite possible that you glazed the surface of the clutch, and if its not too bad...normal driving can clear minor glazing.

I can't understand why it would burn. I simply let the clutch out, fast, at 7.5k RPM, but didn't get on the throttle right away so the car jerked and the RPM dropped to around 5k RPM as the engine tries to adjust to the car's speed. How could it burn?

agreed regular city driving can basically clean the surface of the clutch if it just got a little glazed from letting the clutch out slow when the engine speed is high. Just take it i easy for a little bit
