Here's a thought, if you don't have three bars on the temp guage then vtec will not engage and the rev limiter will go off at around 6500rpm. I'm sure you haven't heard this before

I did the same thing once and it did scare the crap out of me. After I did it I looked for a reason in the manual and I couldn't find any warnings about it. It wasn't until I joined S2k.com did I really find out.

It is a freaky feeling. For some reason with an AEM intake it made LOUD whopping sound, then almost gives you whiplash.

Why would anyone Vtec when the car is not fully warmed up at 3 bars?

Ric,

So, do you think the above mentioned causes, was the cause?

thanks a lot guys.. Well when I said "after I pulled out" i ALWAYS let me cars warm up (used to driving pretty modified cars) but she did have the heat all the way up WITH defrost on now that i checked.. (not to bright of a girl) anyways.. I believe that it may of dropped below 3 bars.. even though it was warm.. may of been at two... Thanks a lot for the advice guys.. this is the best forum i have ever been on.. take care

You let a passenger play with your control sufaces (even if it is just the temp controls.) and you call HER "not too bright?" What's next, is she going to set the radio too?

Rule #1: Don't touch the paint.
Rule #2: No food, drink or Smoke in the car.
Rule #3: Don't touch anything except the seat, floormat, and "Oh-Sh*T handle."
Rule #4: Hang on for dear life!

I've found if you use good oil in the F20C1 you CAN go into VTEC before it hits 3 bars.. I've used Mobil1 since the 1st oil change and twice I've had to "hit it" before it got to the 3 bars and it would go to 9000 rpm with VTEC engaged just fine..

Dundonr,

Yep, noticed the same thing. It was either wait a very longtime and hope traffic clears or nail it. I waited long enough and nailed it, never went to 9,000 but did go above where it should have stopped.

There are many factors to when you can VTEC, the number of bars is not none of them, but can be used as a guide. If you run dino oil, when you hit three bars for coolant temp, then the oil should be warm enough to flow properly. Synthetic has a more consistent flow warm or cold, so the car allows you to rev higher sooner. Its not if you use a ?good? oil or not, but if its synthetic or dino.
