Is the item circled in white a coin holder? If so, is it supposed to have some coin cylinders with plungers in it? Without something like that is seems like a noise trap.

It's technically a coin holder, but it's useless in doing that!

I can't tell you what it was originally intended for but I keep toothpicks in mine and a small garage door opener on top of them.

I have the bottom cut out of mine, and i have a 15 gig i pod hooke up to my stereo. Fits great

Now you're talking. I would like to put my iPaq there. I have a 512MB SD card in it with several CD's on it but could also use it for the GPS through the radio.
