Competition Clutch Installed

:D My clutch was slipping pretty bad, as the 1-2 shift was getting close to an automatic type shift, so I decided to upgrade and go a different route than most go on the board. Upon reading and reading, I decided to go with the competiton clutch 4 puck w/ super lightweight flywheel. With a supercharger planned down the line, I didn't want to get something that i'd have to replace down the road. I was also thinking less rotating mass. I ordered from automotivespeed.com The guy was cool, although we did have some issues with emails. Not sure whether he sent them, or if it was my spam filter blocking.

With the clutch installed, I went on a drive to a near by quiet road. Immediately I feel the clutch. There's not much room for the clutch to slip at all, it's very "on/off". Frist isn't bad. Reverse will take some getting used to. Pedal pressure isn't too bad, feels similar to stock with more spring back. The car revs a bit faster and there is def some more noise coming from the tranny. On decel there's a buzzing of sorts, and there is some clutch chatter. Now for the good stuff. Mind you, i'm pretty much stock, this clutch grabs! It's like I own a new car again, as I didn't realize how much the actual clutch was slipping. The pedal pressure is light, and the clutch grabs hard. It's pretty much just like what the some of the previous reviews state. For right now it's pretty hardcore, only time (and boost) will tell how this holds up in the future....but for right now...big

the competition clutch setups are GREAT!

once you are used to the engagement, it'll be like stock! The noise you hear is just chatter has the material grabs. Its not bad :)

yeah it's not bad at all. I was expecting more. DEF not bad.

Pros: Grabs freakin hard. Rev's faster. Pedal pressure is around stock stiffness, with more spring back. Feels great!

Cons: There's some chatter and a some decel buzz. Reverse def has some getting used to.

I have the stage 2 with their lightweight fw. I agree with the decel buzz, very loud between 2-3.5K rpms. There is noticable chatter as well. It does grab hard. I am bone stock and break the tires lose on a hard 1-2 shift, and just a hair on the 2-3 as well.

How do you like the stage 2? I was thinking about that, but ended going puck.

Glad you are happy with the grip Daniel

Dumontster, I think you also feel that it might have a chance to be due to an issue you had with the clutch/gearbox install job from whomever you bought the car from. It was not in good shape by any means and also not aligned properly before. However I know you are very happy with the way it grips even with the stage 2. I am convinced that the Stage 2 offers more grip than the ACT street package with the HDPP.

I am using their discontinued 7lb flywheel right now with the ironman and I have had no issues with chatter or decel. Had 460whp and it held up great, have 360whp and it's definate no issues.

We have them on sale right now...see the sig

Thanks for the great service.

The clutches lived up to their reviews. I'm happy with it.

It seems I am not the only one experiencing this buzz as stated in the posts above. My installer is certain the issue is with the clutch kit itself.

If I could do it again I would purchase the HardtopGuy ACT PP, OEM disc, and Comptech Lw Fw. There seems to be no clutch buzz issue with the OEM disc and ACT PP.
