Comptech intake
Hi
ive been searching around for intakes for the s2000. I noticed many of them such as the aem cai or spoon snorkel require modification to the car to make them fit properly. What do you guys think about the comptech air box? I know it wount really make any more hp but im trying to prevent the bog when the heat is hot. Also how does it sound? Does it sound any different from stock?? Any other recommendations?
Thanks

i for one love my comptech intake. you're right it doesn't really make any noticeable horsepower but it does get rid of the lag and the acceleration improves a bit.
if you're driving normally you won't notice the difference in the sound but at WOT it's a lot louder than stock.
there have been some people that put this intake on and after a little while they moved on to the AEM unit because it does make more power.
the install isn't too difficult either, just make sure you read through the directions all the way before you start.

Thanks for the knowledge,
I think i am going to go with comptech then. It seems like a perfect choice. Sounds like stock unless WOT. I would love to get a mugen or J's but the prices seem so ridiculous for an intake, to me anyways.
How much did you pay for yours? Any good sites selling for less?

there's small modification with the comptech . you have to grind down the part of the hood prop. then some fitment issues
nothing is perfect

Buy the Comptech.
I 've seen and heard many CAIs and I believe that Comptech is one of the best aftermarket solutions for great sound and performance.
I never had any issues with fitment/modificatons.
You wont regret this!
My second choice would be the Spoon snorkle.

im running around with the top cover of the stock airbox removed. buttmeter seems to feel it's a bit better but the ears may be influencing somewhat.
actually i plan to mod the stock airbox first. take a look inside airbox at the plastic partition-note size of air hole.. note size of airbox snorkel. note the size of the holes on shroud infront of radiator.

I just tried installing it, and the box doesnt fit right on MY04. Why is that?
also, did you swap out the bracket to the left of the radiator? this is a bracket that they provide.
inside the airbox towards the back there are 2 drilled holes and they're used for mounting, try to swtich to the next hole over, see if that makes a difference.
I just installed mine in my 04, it was a PITA because it didnt fit correctly in the rear and the opening in the airbox hood for the hood prop needed adjustments. If you have a prob with screwing in the rear bracket, I would suggest loosening the rear bracket and angling it so that it'll match up with the holes in the airbox, then re-tighening it once you screw on the airbox to the bracket. That was my main problem and took me about 2 hrs to figure that crap out. There's no clearence problem with the intake and hood. All in all, this is a nice intake.

The offer more the one intake part number. The MY04/05 require yet another change to CompTech's design. it has to be installed (bolted down) in the exact order used in their documentation. Failure to follow that part will casue the fittment to be off.
You also might want to check the part number on your intake. they all look the same, but they are differant.
