Default comptech sc/ac AND 4.77 final drive

i know of one member who runs the 4.77 with a CTSC. i was wondering if anyone thinks it's too much to have both, and if maybe i should look into the 4.56 instead. how does it feel when you're DDing the 4.77 + ctsc? how about when you're redlining it through each gear?

thanks in advance

i had this setup but i just sold my supercharger. it's not too much imo. if you plan on running more than 10lbs of boost it might be better going with the 4.57's.

redlining through each gear was fun first 2nd third you can rip through hard. the 4.77's get you into boost earlier so it really makes up for the lack of low end the sc doesnt provide. i raced a supercharged saleen on the freeway and pulled on him in 5th...dead even 3rd & 4th.

4.7 for low end and SC for top end, IMO it will be a good combo.

Too much.

I'd go with 4.56-4.57's rather than 4.77s.

Especially if you do significant highway driving or care about your top end acceleration.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think it's simply an exact rpm higher than stock. at a given rpm with the stock FD gear (4.1), the 4.77 FD gear will yield an engine rpm of (4.77/4.1)*(the rpm w/stock gear). IOW it's a ratio, and the difference in rpm depends on what rpm you're at.

for example, let's say i'm cruising at 75 MPH with stock gear, and my engine speed is 4k rpm, then with the 4.77 gear, my rpm would be 4650ish - a difference of 650. now if i'm vtec'ing at 7k in 2nd gear with stock gear, my rpm with 4.77 gear would be 8140ish - a difference of 1140.

back to the OP though, if i had a SC, i would probably not get gears because the s2k is drag limited to around 155, but with the extra power, it becomes gear limited, so then you can brag about being able to reach 170

i'd be putting in the gear maybe a month after having the SC/AC in by itself. maybe i should try to reach top speed in that time frame??

If you are going to autocross the car, the 4.77 gears will almost certainly be too short. My regoins autocrosses are relatively slow and tight, and my 4.30's are almost perfect for the slow courses. On faster courses I'll be throwing a shift to third at points, so even the 4.30's would be a bit too short. If you're one of the people who doesn't use first gear when autocrossing then 4.77's might be a big improvement, but I'm not one of those people.

Street use is another matter, so depending on how and where you drive, 4.77's *might* be a better choice than 4.56/4.57's. With a hard launch you'll use up first gear in the blink of an eye, but shifting is half the fun. OTOH, if you use the car mostly on the highway, then 4.77's may not be the best choice, since you can get the same effect (on the highway) by downshifting an extra gear, and doing so doesn't require you to put up with higher revs when cruising. LOL, you know how you use the car better than we do, so you are your own best advisor when it comes to things like gearing.
