Confused about 'OEM' Wheels

Ok, I have a stock '04 S2k. Yesterday, a parking lot attendant gave the right rear wheel a severe case of curb rash. Bad. Ouch!

My local dealer says a new wheel is just under $650, but he will sell it for $560. On the Internet, another Honda dealer quoted just under $420.

The local (about one hour away) wheel repair shop needs to see it, but wants around $125-200 to fix it. Shipping adds another $20. Mounting and balancing is around $20-30 in all cases.

Now, an Internet search yielded some non-Honda Honda parts or wheel sellers, that are listing an Asahi made wheel that appears to be the same as stock for $167-180, including shipping. One of the sellers is about 90 mintues away; next day UPS ground. One site called them an OEM reproduction?

What are those wheels? Cheap knockoffs? Actual wheels sold through a different channel?

I'm very unset about the damage and confused about the wheel.

Thanks,

David

how bout make the valet's ins. pay for it? did u notice it after u left the lot? or right away?

There are 3 different types of wheels. Those shops could be showing you either the year 2000-2003 wheels 16" or the 2004-2005 17" 10 spoke design or the newest 10 spoke design 17" on 2006+

They said they would pay...but I'll know after I collect. A PITA I didn't need.

The wheels are all '04 17x8.5. Looks factory in the picture. But the picture could be anything. At less than $700 a set, it makes getting a set for autocross tires more attractive.

But only if they are the real thing. I'm hoping someone knows their origin and maybe has used them.

I'm not sure it is ok to post the link according to forum rules. You can PM me for the link.

Since its not your money, buy a brand new wheel from the dealership. Get it billed directly to them, don't front any of your own money. No use risking anything with a "reproduction" of unknown quality and finish.

Does anyone know who actually makes our rims?

Enkei makes our wheels.

Just give the valet place the part number, and have them order it, and have them take care of the bill.

The 06 and up wheels are not made by Enkei anymore.
