Mine was $3000, I painted it Monte Carlo Blue after it being Berlina Black originally. Here's a pic:

I think that S2K1's car is gorgeous, and if it were available as-delivered, I'd much rather have Monte Carlo Blue than any other color. I've had bad experiences with repainted repair jobs in the past, and although I know there are excellent paint shops that do quality work (and probably charge $3K), I've been burned before and wouldn't want to take the chance on such a nice vehicle. That doesn't mean that a job like S2K1's is any less durable than the factory paint job.

If I knew the paint shop had an excellent reputation and I was confident that the job would be equivalent to original, then I could see getting it done.

The big problem is everyone claims to do a great paint job, even Earl Scheib. And most paint jobs look great, at least from a distance. Time is the true test, and by that time, your money is long gone.

So, diGital, to answer your question, "how much does it cost", the best answer is, "how good of a paint job do you want, and are you willing to make the effort to seek out the best?"

The place I went to paints all of RJ DeVera's personal cars. They were also the ones who painted an Integra for an APEX'i add. They paint many show cars and after two weeks of mine being done, I haven't noticed anything wrong with the paint job. I'd definately recommend Mobworks in Orange, CA 714-633-9355. They even gave me their cell # in case something happens to the paint job.

:EDIT: Here's current pic.

I don't have any experience with Mobworks, but I will say one thing about paint. A body shop that can do wild and awesome looking paint for "show" cars still doesn't say much about it. RJ DeVera's car was repainted a couple times in the last 2 years for different events. Anyone who is serious about showing their car repaints it about once a year. The aesthetic quality of the paint may be top notch, but the durability is something of a mystery until you've had it for a couple years.

The paint job on S2K1's car, nevertheless, looks great right now.

It's not so much the paint as the prep.. 3k is extremely cheap for a QUALITY paint job. One that approaches the quality of the original will require the removal of the entire interior, engine, wheel well liners... any plastic moulding around windows any plastic trip pieces of any kind, headlights taillights. Preferably the car will be put on a rotisserie... and all body panels will also be removed.
All edges (especially all nooks and crannies need to be preped with extreme attention to detail (as often these are the places that the 'good' paint job will crack if not enough attention is paid. I have seen very... and i mean very few repaints that even approach the quality of an OEM paint job (absolutely none at 3k) ... seen one paint job good as OEM at 5k (done at reduced cost because the owner removed every bolt from the car) and a handful with perfect (and i'm super duper anal about paint) at a cost of around 9-12 thousand smakers.. and we arent' even talking about fancy paint colors... just good ol oem paint on hot rods.. The 5k job i saw went on to sell a while back at the barret-jackson auction for more than 110,000 dollars..

I don't know about you guys but a shoddy paint job sticks out like a sore thumb.. even a halfway mediocre job that is just rough around the egdes just drives me bonkers..... If you have a new car that you have taken good care of the paint... it's not worth the money to have it changed IMHO. Even if you have a cool color everyone else does not have, if the paint job is half assed and is shoddy (even only from close up) it completely takes away from the vehicle (no insult to any of you guys.. haven't seen your paint up close!) Now take that shoddy paint job 3 years down the road and it gets even worse..
