Some people never made it past 6th grade or ever had a real job. I see the same crap on craigslist and I'm sure the guy I bought mine from was surprise I showed up with case and had manners.

It's hit or miss. I've had better luck buying stuff than selling, but often people ask for way too much for their stuff. I can get a refurb of the exact same item with warranty shipped to my house for the price they're asking...

I've had some really good experiences. I bought $2k of camera equipment (a dSLR body and a lens) from a guy off craigslist. I met him at his apartment and he was really nice professional photographer for a newspaper.

Sometimes I message people and they never say anything. So either they sold it and are too lazy to delist their item, or they're just idiots.

Other times they're scammers and try to get me to send them money.

Oh well.... good luck.

Tried to sell my 05 Crown Vic on Craigslist and the only response I got was from somebody in TX who had bad grammar even though she was with the FBI(?). I traded it in shortly thereafter.

Selling the carcass of my old pickup worked out well though

A few years ago, I tried selling my '02 Acura RL on Craigslist that had under 60,000 miles and was in mint condition..

I keep my guard up when buying or selling on CL or any ad service. When I was looking for factory wheels for my LS430, one guy said he had a set with him living in a residential hotel outside Detroit. Saw myself getting robbed, so um, no. Another guy had listed factory wheels and when I got to his suburban house they turned out to be aftermarket. Then he said that he had the car's original wheels in boxes in the basement, if I was interested. I went home happy with 4 winter wheels. I bought winter wheels for my Ridgeline off CL from a guy in mid-Ohio and he delivered them when he came up to the Detroit autoshow.

I bought or sold 6 vehicles, including my S2K, on CL and the transactions went fine. CL ads do generate a lot of spam emails and calls. Cars always get offers to help you sell. I use a throw-away email address and I know some folks use throw-away phone numbers. Generally, if trying to buy or sell an older, non-collector car, I find CL to be the best place.

You can have good luck with craigslist. But you do have to sift through a lot of crap. The cliche "no harm in asking" seems to be the car sale motto however. It does crack me up the people that have 2 sentences about the car they're trying to sell and a dark picture of a 3rd of the car sitting in the garage. . . Sometimes I've gone to check those out thinking the car may be decent and the seller just sucks. I've asked them if they would buy the car based on the ad that they posted... that's also interesting.

I usually only post something on CL when i'm ready to let it go for bottom dollar and its cheap to begin with.. I had a 93 civic hatch CX with 100k original miles, it was pretty rusty but ran good a/c worked clean interior etc.. I posted it up for $1300 and had 3 replies in 30 minutes. One of them showed up same day, drove the car and handed over the cash.

I've never had luck selling nice cars or cars worth a good chunk of change on CL.. However I did buy my S2K off of craigslist for a decent deal.
