Cross country road trip advice?
So I'm really getting the bug lately to do a cross country trip from WV to Arizona to see my sister. I'd like to pass through Colorado on the way and check out some of the National parks in the Colorado/Utah area. Since I'm going that far I may as well hit the west coast too. I really want to take the S because I really DON'T want to drive my 2004 CR-V and regret it on every twisty mountain road I encounter. This trip is also about the driving experience for me. Now this will probably require at least 6-7 nights minimum on the road and I would like to camp a few nights to save money as well as enjoy the nights out West. This may simply be impossible with the S2000 but I'd like some advice on at least trying to work out the logistics. I'm not TOO worried about comfort in the S because I drove it 1000 miles home when I purchased it with no complaints. My girlfriend will be going with me as well but we can both pack pretty light and wash clothes at my sister's at the halfway point. She is perfectly happy riding in the S2000 all day.
I don't even own a tent. Any recommendations on a small, easily packable tent for two? I'm I out of my mind to even try it? Any tips on minimalist packing? Haha.
I'm also worried I'll see some awesome dirt roads to explore out west and wish I had a different car for that. If money were no object I'd just keep the S at home and buy a new WRX for the trip...lol.

I drove my 06 S2000 from Los Angeles, CA to Vancouver, Canada the summer of 2015. I think the total mileage racked up was almost 3,000 miles in a span of 9 days. We were able to fit all our clothing in the trunk, along with our sleeping bags, and two person tent we bought at Walmart. We didnt end up opening the tent when we camped in Canada because the weather was still warm at night.
In terms of minimalist packing, try to reuse the jeans and/or shorts you plan to wear for the trip. The s2000 trunk is huge in my opinion. If my girlfriend and I could fit all our belongings in that trunk, I'm sure you will find a way.
There was some nice windy roads entering Oregon from California and north of Vancouver going to Lake Garibaldi and Whistler. I would have regretted not taking the S2000.

Thanks Walnut, that's what I wanted to hear. I didn't buy the S to daydream about driving it while driving the CR-V. I've been doing that for the past ten years..lol. sounds like you packed exactly what I want to try to fit.

My wife and I did a 10 day trip from NY to Yellowstone, and then on to Glacier Park in Montana, and back home a few years back. Close to 6K miles. I would highly recommend taking the S2000. If you haven't done it already, wrap the jack and OEM tools in a towel and place them inside the rim for the spare tire. That will free up a bunch of trunk space. Pack clothing in plastic grocery bags, squeeze the air out and tie them shut. Takes less space. Use the same bags and pack the dirty clothes.
Make sure your tires are good for the trip, or plan to replace them when you get to your sister's place. (Pre-order and have them shipped there.)

You should definitely take the S. It's got plenty of room for everything you would need in the trunk. Just take what you KNOW will need and maybe not so much of what you only think you might. You will beat yourself up if you don't and having a girlfriend willing to do the trip in the S is the largest hurdle solved.
Rolled up clothes take up less space than regularly folded clothes. Also, there's a way the Army and proly a bunch of other people pack socks you should look up if you don't already do that. It saves space too.

Here's my roadtrip thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-ta...s2000-1154592/
One of the best experiences of my life. I'm getting antsy and would love to do it again. My only advice -- go slow and stop in more cities, eat well, hike, explore and take your time, explore, and do it right!
Also... padded bicycle shorts for your ass
