Damn it people! Driving in the rain.

I am sorry to rant and this is not directed to any one person.

But I am tired of reading another thread about how someone hydroplaned.

So here are some, what would seem to be very basic things to do in the rain.

1. MAKE IT HOME!
That is the only thing you should be thinking about. Forget about VTEC hell forget about 5K RPM. 4K MAX.
2. BE GENTLE
All of your inputs should be done very gentlly. Steering inputs, gas and braking. No abrupt movements unless absolutely necessary.
3.INSPECT YOUR TIRES.
This just in they wear out pretty quickly. So look at your back tires and if they are worn out get new ones. I know, I know they are like $350 for rear tires. But trust me compared to the nightmare of wrecking your car not such a big deal.
4. I DON'T CARE WHAT THE SPEED LIMIT IS.
It doesn't matter what the posted speed limit is drive your car for the conditions. If the posted limit is 70 that does not mean you HAVE to drive 70. If it is raining and 50 is safe then do 50. And yes your friend that's with you will call you a pu$$y. Remember rule #1. Then take him to the track and after he throws up call him a pu$$Y.

Look there are no hero's when its raining. I know that drifting around this corner is "SUPER COOL". But I can tell you watching the wrecker pull your car out of the woods next to the corner isn't. Do a search for "hydroplaned" or "wrecked" and PM anyone of those people and ask them how the rest of there day went after that. I am pretty sure not to well.

There are many things on the road that are not in your control and in the rain there are even more. Water puddling on the highway or a stream across the road in the middle of a corner. You have to compensate for those things if at all possible.

So the next time you find yourself in the rain please remember one thing "JUST MAKE IT HOME"

Be safe out there.

Kevin

And if anyone else has any suggestions please post up.

i agree...most rain accidents are caused by pure stupidity. I don't even drive my S when it rains cuz my tires aren't made for it.

They only time my S has a problem, in the rain, is when i make a dumb move. :iagree: 100%

i won't drive my S in the rain because my rears don't have much tread left and it slides too easy. notice that i don't complain about this - i understand my situation and decide i'm not dishing out for more tires at this time, i'd rather just not drive it in the rain.

i think we all hate driving in the rain - and i know i REALLY do. i go from being one of the "quicker" cars on the road (esp in turns), to driving in nothing but the right lane slower than everyone else. it's almost ironic - all those times u have to try to go around those slow drivers that drive you crazy...then it rains and you become one.

oh - and no love for A-holes that mistreat their cars then cry once they crash them. bad things happen to good people all the time, but if you're driving outside your/your car's ability for the given conditions... you get what's coming. i don't drive in the rain/i don't drive fast in the rain, i don't park near other cars no matter what the weather, i don't let other people drive my car. i'm probably more protective over her than female friends as she can't fight for herself

You could get some all season tires :p I drive slower in the rain but i havent noticed much difference in traction. I dont try to find that difference though..Im on all seasons as well.

lol this thread is funny. If an S owner doesn't have enough common sense to drive calmly and in control in the rain, they deserve to crash their car.

I personally love driving in the rain though. Free car wash and rain drops splattering off the s2k soft-top is intoxicating

I daily drive my S. My other ride is a Honda 919, which is even worse in the rain.

Yes, the rear slides easy in the rain. But VSA will not let you spin out. It cuts power and stabilizes the car almost at an instant. Very, very effective.

Sure, you can still get yourself into trouble, but you really have to try. I can see how an S without VSA can be a handful in the rain.

:iagree:

I think we can all agree that's the first thing that comes to our mind when it starts to rain!!! :D

But what about that drizzle or that very light drizzle in certain spots around town...that sh*t sucks!!! First thing that comes to my mind then is "damn them water spots". :thumbdn:

ahuynh31 11-15-2008 12:29 PM
