You're better off staying stock if you have no money to upgrade to a real header.

what do you class as a real header then?

HKS
Mugen
Toda
Spoon
Amuse
J's Racing

Im just after a few points as to which ones are regarded as best really

Theres no really one best, it all depends what you are looking for... Many here use Toda, Mugen, or Spoon. Personally I'm going with Amuse. Its lightweight, has good gains, and will work well in combination with my Amuse exhaust.

If you do a search on "DC header", I'm sure you'll find all the negative info you want about it. From the dynos I've seen, it doesn't add ANY power. If you are looking for "bang for the buck", headers should be at the bottom of your list.

You left the OEM header off the list. It is a great "real" header. The biggest problem with the stock header is that it weighs 10-15 lbs more than the others in your list. You can reduce the weight of the car by 13 lbs just by getting a $90 dry cell battery.

I have a DC Sport SS header on and I can personally tell you that adding a header doesn't really change anything in our S

Exactly, look at the header you brought. If you would have spent $1,000 more, your opinion will be far different.

You sure? While the $1K+ headers generally do provide some gains, the gains are not exactly what I would consider "noticeable". They'll show up on a dyno, but for the most part they won't give you a kick in the pants. For a thousand simoleans, it would be nice to at least have gains that you can truly feel.

:iagree: with mxt. The only power mod I know of that produces noticeable gains for less than $1K is VTEC / fuel tuning.
