Dedicated Top-Down S2K Owner in Michigan
#32
I remember this crazy bastard when I had my first S2k back in 08!! Good to see him still going! My favorite top down time of year is fall, the cold top down weather is fun and no salt on the roads!

This doesn't happen so much with other cars. There is something about an S2000 that encourages top down extremes.
Or maybe its more about the type of person that is drawn towards owning one of these cars. Extreme car draws extreme people who are prone to extreme behaviours.

I am, of course, also limited by what I fit in. I don't, for example, fit in any of the Chevrolet convertibles, or the Mazda roadster (except top-down). That has nothing to do with being extreme. Except that being 6'7 might be considered extreme, in and of itself.

Alas, my commute takes me to Lansing on I-96, so I never see you. IMO, the car is made to be driven with the top down, so I only drive it when it's neither too hot nor too cold nor rainy nor... Which is why I've only put about 1,000 miles on it in the past two summers that I've owned it. The car now has a bit over 7K miles because the previous owner was the same way.

Your definition of too hot or too cold needs adjusting. You don't have to go to the extremes that our hero does of top down at 17 below zero F, but 1k miles a year you are doing something wrong.

I was doing the same thing as this guy in Chicago until the snow came. I got a lot of interesting looks in downtown and the occasional "aren't you cold?" question from strangers. Being 19 I'm sure most people would see me as a douche but they'll never understand the joy of feeling the fresh cold air pass you by in one of the best sports cars ever made.

My rule is 30F or above, not raining, top down. Still I get some of the angry reactions on the commute. I find this really surprising, and an insight into humanity. People are afraid of what they don't understand, and this causes some to become angry.
