definition of "fun to drive"

what's the definition of fun to drive? is it how fast the car responds to your input or what? and why gives the S the fun factor over cars that are faster and more expensive?

my definition of fun to drive is when you get behind the wheel of a car and you just can't help but smile. everytime i get in my car i feel like i'm 15 yrs old. i absolutely love my car. i know there are faster cars out there and cars that can outhandle an s2000, but who gives a shit. i'm extremely happy with what i have. another thing i love about the s2000 is that you don't see many on the road, so it makes it that much more special.

Fun to drive because it's a go-kart with a soft top and A/C. Who does not have fun while driving a go-kart,right?

For me, its the way a car goes, stops and turns. The vert aspect of the S2000 also makes it fun, but 70% of the time I drive with the top up or my HT on. It's still fun with top on, but not as fun as sun and wind on a nice warm day. meaning even if a S2000 was a coupe it'd still be a lot of fun.

Pure acceleration is also fun. I drove a C5 Z06 and it was like an amusement ride every tip of my right foot.

The S2000 does not give that adrenaline rush, but it's not slow (like my Z3 was).

At first I was happy with the Z3 (1.9L) thinking a pure sports car didn't need to be fast, but when I was getting dusted by V6 accords and such at the stop light, I knew there was something missing.

Now with the S2000, even tho it's not super fast, it's still respectable. Plus the sound and Furry of the S2000 when shifted at redline, makes it feel faster and adds to the fun.

I've driven M3, M5, 911 tt, 911 C4S etc.. And while they were all fun in their own right, to me, the lighter car (S2000) with drop top is more fun.

Probably a car like the Elise (even smaller and lighter and quicker than the S2000) would be even more fun to drive. However the Elise would be hard for me to live with as a DD car as I am now doing with the S2000.

25-28 mpg and the smile that puts on my face at the gas pump doesn't hurt either.

My definition of a fun to drive (FTD) car is a car that you look forward to getting into each and everyday for the driving pleasure you get from it. This FTD car will have you taking the long routes to your destination because you do not want to park it. A FTD car will make you smile and have you searching around your local area for backroads that you can take to unleash the car around corners. A FTD car has the ability to put a smile on a drivers face. A FTD car gives you excuses to drive it.

For me, the S2000 falls into this defination so it definately is a FTD car.

it is a matter of head and heart. alot of cars are fun to drive but not all are fun to own day to day or to pay for over and over again with excess maintenance costs,etc...depreciation is above average as is the quality and initial price is reasonable.

so the s means to me is practical and thus satisfies head..., maintenance is within an acceptable range based on what cars cost, performance is superior to many, and this car is fun from most perspectives...

plus it has an emotional factor or heart: the feelings of driving it fast, the challenge involved, the rush, the coolness factor, the feeling of the gearbox or the brakes...the sound of the exaust at high idle when cold, etc...

so it is head and heart for me...which includes a large dossage of fun to drive factor and a few other things. my reference has been that i have owned a 911sc, a 914, a bmw, some mustang gt convertibles and a couple of miatas....fun to drive...all of them.

this car is the one...so far it is the best in all catagories other than the curb appeal...few know what a cool car this is and i don't care enough to go and get a bmw badge and glue it to the trunk and hood!

great answers. I do still wonder how the FTD factor compares between it and ferraris, exotics, etc.
