Digital Tach on AP1
I know that there's an enormous boost in power once an S hits VTEC, but I think that the digital tach on the AP1 exaggerates it. After 6,000rpm, the spacing between the numbers gets significantly bigger, giving the illusion that the car is accelerating more than it really is. Does anyone else agree?

WTF ???

:iagree:

you see the tach go through the numbers alot faster because of the wider spacing after 6,000 RPM, so it makes it seem that you're accelerating faster than you actually are.

Actually, that's an interesting point. It's not a linear scale the way a typical analog tach is. I never actually noticed that before.
I'm guessing that the spacing is wider in the high RPM region so that drivers can get a quick idea of where they are in the rev band. Honestly, though, I don't know why they did it that way. F1 cars have a row of LEDs that start to get red when you approach redline. We know the S2000 was intended to give the driver an F1-like experience... |
Oh, with regard to "illusion of faster acceleration"... I don't know about you guys, but when I'm banging away in VTEC, I'm not really watching my tach -- my eyes are firmly glued to the road about 300 feet in front of me! :burnrubr: :)

In 4th and 5th there is more time to look at the tach.
Better to do that at a highway/freeway, more room there ;) Keep the revs up and you'll see the red part flash! (3 times as far as I  remember) Just before you "bounce of" the rev limiter :) Tip : shift up before that happens. But are you saying the S2000 will be quicker with a "quicker" tach? Now thats an illusion :p |
I doubt the numbers are spaced out to give the illusion of accelerating faster. I noticed this when I first got my car, but figured it was because by having larger spaces between the numbers the driver could more easily tell exactly what RPM they are at. In the low revs, this isn't as important, as you're just shifting when you feel like, but when redlining obviously you want to know exactly what RPM you are at.

I'm not saying that the S2000 will be quicker with a "quicker" tach
lol maybe they did do it to give you a better idea of where you are when you're revving high |
