Do 2008 S2000s command pricing premium over 2006/2007?
For the same mileage and condition, are 2008 S2000s generally more expensive than 2006/2007? If so, what would be the rule of thumb? 10% premium?
2009 ones are difficult to come by so I understand the rationale additional price premium..., but 2008 ones are identical to 2009 ones.
What about 2004/2005 vs. 2006/2007? It seems like they are almost similar in terms of pricing.
Car Gurus gives a general price history sans condition and specific mileage on the odometer.
Just select the model years you want to compare and over what time period if you want to see historical price trends.
According to their chart, 2008s are averaging $39,500 vs. AP2 years 2004-07 hovering around $30,000.
I bought my 2005 10 years ago for $22,550 with 35,000 on the OD. Currently has 55,000 on the OD.
The 2009 and 2008 cars are essentially the same with the exception of the actual date of manufacturing. CRs are a separate category of course.
The wheels are the different from the older cars and there is always a desire for many, not all, for the latest and greatest. The last cars are the last.
My Rio yellow pearl is one of 38 2009s sold in the USA.
I've been looking at values a lot recently and IMO the desirable color combinations tend to be the X factor in value rather than year, mileage, etc. Obviously a newer car will have more features, the 06+ overall seems to be the desirable car and then values increase from there based on spec. Obviously the lower the mileage the higher the value goes. Highest ever selling price of a non-CR S2000 I believe was the 2007 Imola Orange car. Now same car, same mileage but a 2008MY, would it go for more? Not sure honestly. 06-07 had a huge jump in quality of life and modernization upgrades over the 04-05 and the 08-09 doesnt differ from that massively.
Honda made 66,000 S2000s in North America. These cars aren't rare.
Honda made some ~650 CRs (I forget the exact number) which is why they're worth a pretty penny (which is hilarious given that it was a parts bin special due to the dumped economy).
Stop picking a car based on desirability. Buy a car to drive. My S2000 is one-of-one, 2006 berlina black with red interior, and I still modified it because it's the best car I've ever owned and driven. Y'all are worrying more about whether the car is collectible is missing the forest for the trees.
Edit: 2008/2009 had the CR AP2v3s which were 255s in the rear versus 245s on the AP2v1s and AP2v2s.
There's also the theory of getting the most recent, lowest mileage version of a car you like.
Exactly what I set out to do. Wanted a 2009 and looked at a few but condition and mileage wasn’t there. Settled on 2008 with 22k miles. Had a chance at a 2006 with 18,000 miles for 39,999 or a GPW 2004 for $37k with 24,000 miles but knew I might regret not getting the v3.
Wanted the feeling that if I bought the best “newest” one I could find, then maybe I delay the onset of the “time related” parts failures as long as possible.
Also love the v3 wheels but I also like the 08/09 dash gauge changes for the fuel and engine temp gauges.
