I babied my car and rarely took it over 8k rpms (02 ap1) yet it still managed to puke an engine. There are things that can occur to these engines during their life which eventually come back to haunt the owner later down the road. A higher mileage car increases the chance of this happening, not knowing past owners and how they treated the car is a big unknown.

I agree with this, and this is the #1 reason why I bought very low mileage cars. I do think that you can minimize the risk by doing a compression test on a high mileage engine before you buy. Still, personally I think its worth a bit of extra $ to have peace of mind about the car's history.

What do you consider a high mileage S2000?

As far as the thread topic, I bought my AP2 with 151k miles (It was probably the cheapest and poorly maintained AP2 in the country at the time) and as much money and time I've put into it since August of 18, It's basically a brand new car at this point. I can't say I regret it.

151k sounds like a lot, but with a zero mile motor I'm hoping it will increase the resell some.

Mine had 112k when I bought it, and I was intentionally looking for a higher mileage one to keep the cost down. But my intended use was to drive it and enjoy it, and not stress over every mile added to the ODO. Mine was a single owner complely stock with no bodywork/accidents and had some decent maintenance history documented. It's not the miles that matter, it's the kind of miles and the care of the vehicle.

I have no regrets. Go over the car, have an expert look at, consider the back story, etc. In my search, I found many high mileage samples that were modified and possibly tracked, so those were out.

In the end, it's a Honda. Properly cared for, they run forever.

For what its worth. I bought a low mileage S2k. I drive it. A lot. I enjoy it fully. I do not stress over miles added to the ODO. I bought my 02 in the summer of 2016. It had 8K miles at the time. I now have 40K miles on the ODO. I've put approximately 10K miles on it each season. So, the fact that you buy a low mileage S2k does not mean that you stress over the car any more than you do over a car with 100K. In fact, I suspect I stress less over the car because it is perhaps every so slightly more reliable than a high mileage car, (although these cars are very reliable even with high miles). I'm confident it was not mistreated by the first owner. I take good care of it.

Sorry to briefly hijack this thread, but cosmo, your aviatar rocks! I was ship's company on the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65). The ship's CO and the Air Boss were both A-7 drivers. Single seat attack!

How much did you originally pay for your car and how much have you invested in it since your original purchase?
