Do you keep the spare tire in the trunk?
I got to looking at my spare tire. It doesn't look like I'd want to ride on it in any case, and wonder if the full size tire would even fit in the trunk. etc.. The space tire is about 70% of the normal tire hight and about 1/3 of the width in case you haven't seen it.
do you guys leave it in or take it out? It's ~25 lbs so that's some weight loss but not much in any case. But to leave it in there is some piece of mind however would you really drive on the mini spare? After all I have AAA so they'd flat bed me to safety if I ever got a flat... |
Whats a spare tire?
|
i think the general consensus is that people are either too lazy to take it out or that they take it out and rely on AAA and/or fix-a-flat.

I've kept my spare. I don't have time to sit around helplessly waiting for help with a flat tire. My self esteem could not handle the hit.
But seriously, don't the resource and technology requirements of a flatbed haul to a tire shop seem excessive to deal with a flat tire? We used to deal with these things in the old days with a jack and a lugwrench. ;) It seems similar to using calling 911 for a $600 ambulance ride to the airport clinic in lieu of a cab ride to catch a plane (just because insurance might cover the ambulance doesn't make it a very reasonable alternative "ride".) It is an alternative, but it is not a reasonable alternative IMHO. |

So where do you put the full size rear tire? Does it fit in the trunk?
you have to put the front on the rear and the mini on the front... that seems like a lot of work. Plus I have AAA so it's not costing me anything and they aren't going broke. |
I plan on ditching it in my apartment. On long trips, I'd probably take it with, but around town, I can call a friend or find some other solution.

My trunk is 100% gutted, down to bare metal :) (no spare of course)
