Default Does the Factory Honda Trunk Wing Function?

I kinda like he Honda factory wing and was wondering if it actually did anything. Does it actually help with stability at speed, or is it just for show??? Also if anyone has pic's please post.

Creates at least 3 pounds of down force.

Think about it. That would be like putting a six pack in the trunk. Any spoiler is not really effective under 60 MPH. At that speed you are probably going strait and you would want less downforce. Anyway, if you are going to track the car, there are much better alternatives.

Actually you almost always want downforce unless it is too much becomes counterproductive when cornering. Downforce means you have more pressure on the wheels without the weight. Why do you think the super-duper drag racers have such tiny cars but such huge wings? I forget the exact figure but I believe they add about 5k lbs. of pressure to the rear wheels at speed. Another good example of downforce (although reveresed in this case) is the Enzo. The Enzo doesn't have a wing because the undercairage (sp?) is designed to act like a reverse wing and suck the car downwards. Just some food for thought...

Most factory "wings" - including the S2000's - aren't really wings at all. They are actually spoilers. Most cars will, at speed, actually generate positive lift at the rear, a spoiler destroys some of this lift by changing the flow pattern around the rear of the car. There is actually no down side to this, in most cases, since the net downforce (weight minus lift) is increased and the drag is actually reduced (producing lift creates drag). Positive lift at speed is often what gives cars a squirelly feeling at high speeds, so a well designed spoiler can fix that.

A wing, on the other hand, acts like an airlplane wing tuned upside down, since that's exactly what it is. It generates downforce, but at the expense of creating drag. It does (basically) nothing to the aerodynamic environment of the rest of the car.

So what can I put on the car to keep it from being squirrely (sp). I track often and at speeds of over 100, it gets kind of crazy.

Get a well designed 3D wing. It does help on track. Heck it helps on the highway at 60+mph too.

Some people may not like the look though.
