Default Does this sound like scam to you? *updated*

UPDATE Well, you all called it to a "T" on this one. This guy is definitely a scammer, trying to get some money out of me. I sent him an email last night asking him if I could have his phone number so I could discuss with him more details on the matter, to try and see if he was serious about it...And, today, I recieved an email that said "I am very sorry but I just moved into a new house, and dont have the money to afford a phone" just like what you guys said he would say...But, I'm not with my fun yet. I sent him another email back that said "Well, I have some friends in the United Kingdom that own Honda S2000s, and have agreed to go have a look at the car for me, so we dont have to worry about shipping it just yet. Can we get something arranged for that to take place? All I need is your address. Thanks"

We'll see if he even responds to this one...if he does, I'll have some fun with him...Anyone want his email address?

Thank you to ALL who opened up my eyes to this sort of a scam. I'm glad I didnt have to learn this lesson the hard way

So, there is an S2000 that I'm talking to a guy about that is a 2002 in the United Kingdom with 17,000 miles on it, that a guy is selling for $6,600...I know...sounds cheap. Carfax came back clean, and I emailed the guy asking why he's selling it (at the time, I didnt know he lived in the UK) So, here are the emails...Could anyone tell me if this sounds like a scam to you???

His first email to me:
The car is as good as new so you don't have to worry. The price is $6600.
Here are the most
important details about the car :
- US car ( US model , US specs )
- odometer in Miles , speedometer in Miles per Hour ( MPH )
This car meets all Environmental Regulations in the USA ( DOT , EPA ).
it has a clear title issued in US and it can be registred anytime
under your name without a problem. It's absolutely perfect ,it has a clear
title
,has never been repaired , never been involved in any type of accident or
had any paint or body work done! I live in the UNITED KINGDOM now where
European specs are different from the American ones and it costs me too
much driving this car legally here and also there is nobody interested in
buying it here.In addition, the car's steering is on the left like in the US
but english cars have steering on the right that's why I am selling it so
cheap hoping to find a buyer in the US where it belongs.I inquired and the
best and fastest way I can ship with is using Pegasus Cargo and it
takes between 7-10 days to arrive at your door and I will take care of 50%
of
the expenses which include shipping and insurance. We will use a safe
payment method I am affiliated at Square Trade ,I have a a purchase
protection
account for 20000$ and I assume you know what this means.I will wait
for your email to let me know if you are interested in knowing more details
about the purchase.
Thank you

My response back to him
Do you have any idea as to how much the shipping would cost? I would imagine it'd be a lot to ship it from one continent to another. Also, how did you get the car over there? I'm assuming you purchased it in the US and then moved to the United Kingdom and had it shipped when you moved?
Thanks

And his response back to me, just received
Shipping the car to your place costs arround 2000$ which will be supported
50% by each of us.Square Trade is the third party involved who will
offer us both protection I am affiliated there with a protection account of
20000$. Let me tell you how we will make this deal:
1.You will have to give me your full name and shipping address and I will
open a case.
2.You will be contacted by Square Trade
3. I will start the shipping proces and after you receive the shipping
confirmation
4.You will make a deposit of 2500$ at Square Trade
5.In 5 to 10 days the car and all the documents that you need to pass
it on to your name will arrive to the address you provided to SquareTrade
6.You will have 10 days to inspect and test drive the car
7.If -you want to buy the car you will send the rest of the money and the
car will be yours
8.If there are any kind of problems with the car which I don't think
will be the case, you will be fully refunded and I will take responsiility
to
pay around 200$ to ship it to the closest Square Trade warehouse until I
find another buyer.
The deposit you make will be kept by SquareTrade until you will receive
and inspect the car. There is no risk in this deal. The transaction is simple
so everything should go as planned.I have to tell you i will sell the car
to the first one who starts this deal by sending the deposit.
Have a good day and hope to hear from you soon
P:S.Also you must know that you will send the deposit after you receive the
shipping confirmation from www.pegasuscargo.com because i work with this
company in the past and i like how they are moving

I am asking if this sounds like a scam, because of the fact that he lives overseas, and have heard of scams about people sending cars overseas. Also, is anyone familiar with the "SquareTrade" company he is speaking of?

if it looks too good to be true, it is.

That car's worth easily over $20,000.

But if this Square Trade company is legit, then I dont really have anything to lose, right? I mean, $2500 dollars isnt really that much to add to the price of the car since its already so cheap, if I decide to purchase it, and I have 10 days to have it inspected by a mechanic of my choice, look at the car, and test drive it, and if I decide to not buy the car, I dont even have to pay for the shipping...So, does anyone know about this Square Trade company?

when the car arrives,u should walk real slow around it and kick the tires a few times...then tell him that the shiftknob is a bit scuffed up..and ask to drop the price..lol..
hey,,basically ur risking $2000+ at a chance to make at least $13,000+ with ur eyes closed..up to u

My feeling is that this is fraud. I have never heard of squaretrade. I am not the most worldly person, but anyone can have a fictitious business name and website running out of someones closet.
One thing I didn't like is that he did not answer your question. How did he wind up in Europe with USDM vehicle?

So, even though I will be depositing the $2500 TO square trade, which, from those links you gave me, seems to be a legit company, and since I wont be paying the $6,600 UNTIL I can give the car a good look over, you still think its a bad idea? I mean, he wont be recieving the $2500 deposit which I will be making to square trade, and I dont even have to decide to purchase the car once it's here...

I understand that I should definitely heed caution about this deal, and as many have pointed out, and have thought myself, that this seems too good to be true, but the company seems to be quite the real thing

Why not just spend a few hundred on a plane ticket and go see it for yourself?
OR
See if we have a member in the UK that will look at it for you.

Definitely!

Adam... it's entirely up to you. If you're asking me... I would not do or risk it.
If this is a money issue, just wait a little longer and buy one here in the US. Check carmax.com out.
