Default factory roll hoops

does anyone know of any honda documentation that states that the factory roll hoops are designed for rollover protection? i can't seem to find it mentioned in the owner's manual.

There was a vid posted some years back of a car rolling while on a drive. It landed on the roll hoop with both driver and passenger walking away safe, with only minor bumps. Also Honda added additional support in the windshield frame for the same reason.

FWIW-I recall seeing a thread where someone's car had been vandalized, and they had smashed the plastic of the roll hoops. In the pics the user posted you could clearly see the beefy, steel roll hoops that reside under the plastic housing.

I was happy to see what was under there because I was wondering about them myself.

They are designed for roll over protection. In the few years I have been around s2ki, I have seen photos/video of some bad accidents. One person put their S upside down ~100mph, walked away, hoops looked good however the windshield did colapse enough to make some nervous. Someone else tiped the car over a small cliff/hillside, landed top side down and the hoops held up, walked away.

The s2000 has passed roll over crash test to standard X, as tested by the NHSTA or Honda's internal testing can't remember....I forogt what exactly what X was but it boiled down to it is one of the safer cars on the road - AND better in roll over accidents then most cars/suv/trucks. I wish I had links But this all true.

Even though they are designed for rollover, I doubt you will have any official document stating the fact. Their lawyers would not want this "official document" to exist to the general public. Reason? Potential law suites if someone rolls over and dies.

They are designed for rollover protection, but I would check with the track you are doing your HPDE at. The reason is some tracks do not consider the factory hoops sufficient. I know in my area Watkins Glen and VIR require an actual rollbar. Maybe if you pass the "broomstick test" they will let you slide, but I would confirm all this before you go. Good luck.

Not sure if this was originally published by Honda, but:

[QUOTE]The windshield surround is specially strengthened by a tubular brace. The driver's and passenger's integrated roll bars are made of 1.5-inch diameter high-strength steel pipe with a .080-inch wall thickness. The roll bars are securely anchored to the high X-bone floor frame. The reinforced door pillars, and reinforced windshield posts and windshield frame all contribute to the car meeting the Federal standards for occupant protection in a rollover accident
