First impressions on my new Boxster S vs S2000

Here are my first comments after only 300 miles on the Porsche:

1. Conditions :( Never went above 5 Krpm, Realy not pushing hard either on turns or braking, most the time city and freeways )

Plus

-Quality of materials and finish not comparable
-The car is much more easy to drive fast
-Much Faster in an open road ( track ? )
-Exceptional brakes and handling ( Think better than s2000, I have got 18" and 235/265)
-Much quiet and confortable than s2000

Minus

-Not as racing ( at least up to 5Krpm in the S)
-Not as emotional

Conclusions up to now ;

I would own both.

They are diferent.

If you have to choose and price is not an issue I honestly think Porsche is a superior car, but no so racing....

Hey S2K_Spain-

Congrats again on your purchase. The Porsche Boxster S is a very nice car.

Like I said before, the Boxster S is faster than the S2000. I'm glad to see that you noticed that.

What were your concerns with the fit and finish? Which one was better? That wasn't too clear in your post. I would assume the Porsche was better finished than the S2000. Heck, for that money, it had better be!

Interesting that you state you would like to own both... would it be worth paying twice for two cars that do almost the same thing, albeit differently?

The finish is much better on the Porsche. I got the full leather interior package and the quality is great ( it looks like a luxury jaguar/aston/etc )

Yes I woould own both. I think S2000 is car comparable in feelings with the ferraris of the 70/80s ( 308/328/348 ) noisy,fast,racing....

How does the rear plastic window compare?
Worst in the S2K?

Muz 04-07-2001 12:40 PM

Yes.. tell us about the window. Does it suffer the same problems as our S?

The Boxster S is a superior GT car, the S2000 is a superior sports car!

Look up in a Motor Trend or other mag and you'll see that the Boxster S is no faster to 60Mph and has even lost to the S2000 on a track. Beautiful car, I agree, but I question if it's worth the extra $30,000. Just my 2 cents..

I don

In the Best Motoring video series, a Boxster S conclusively walked away from an S2000 to about 70mph.

On pure specification alone, I would agree that the Boxster should outbrake the S2000 given it's Brembo monoblock calipers front and rear.

I agree, though, that one of each would find it's way into my ultimate garage (actually it'd be an S2000 and a RUF 3400S).

Figure in the prestige factor of the Porsche. One thing I don't really like about the S2K in terms of styling are the rims. They're too similar to the ones found on the Preludes.
