Free designs- $40 - 40 min. hardtop stand- build it yourself
#211
Ok, I built the stand in a way that I can break it down and put it in the trunk so I can travel with it. It breaks down into 4 parts and the 4 long poles. I have 6 points that I have connected with 1/4 inch bolts and wing nuts. The longest piece is 50 inches. I cut it just slightly shorter. If there is any interest I'll go into more details. Here are some pictures, including ones that show how it fits in the trunk.

Built one of these last week and my cost ended up coming out to closer to $30 USD, which was great! (Thank you Home Depot). I also decided to modify it a bit though, since I live in a tiny efficiency and space is precious. I went with 1" pipes (the main reason for the cheaper price), and also added some extra T joints 84 cm off the ground on the back to make it double as a bike stand! The first T-joint just has 10 cm of pipe and a cap on it, this one goes through the spokes on the rear wheel of my bike. The second T-joint has an L-joint which is capped at the other end on it which makes a "hook" that goes between the front fork and the frame, or (depending on your bike) under the top tube (as displayed on my bike in the pictures):

Great thread and info, decided to build one tomorrow with a fellow s2ki member and just picked up all the pieces at Lowes.
Decided to go with 1.5” vs 2” original plan. January 2022 prices are up to $112.56!

Its rock solid! Reading through the whole thread sounds like several others used the 1.5", even back when materials were a lot cheaper. 2" for this setup is definitely overkill. I'll get some pictures to share. I do like the look of 2" but the 1.5" I'd 100% recommend. I added little felt knobs near window seal on pvc so the seals were not resting directly on the PVC.
