Getting an S2000...
Ok, so some of you may have seen my previous post about trading in my S2000 on a new GTI and now missing my S2000. My better half has agreed that I can pick up another S2000 in the next year or so (once we have a house), but I don't think she'd smile on my spending more than about $10k.
First off, please don't get pissed off at my saying I'm driving down resale value or anything. I know some people get their backs up about this stuff, but I am talking about getting an MY00 or MY01.
Anyway, so is it possible to get an S2000 for under $10k?
I was thinking I could possibly by a car with a blown motor and then buy an engine myself. I am not a genius mechanic, but if the trans were still in place and all I had to do was install a new motor I think between myself, the internet, and a few talented friends of mine it could be done.
How about just buying a really high mileage car and waiting for the motor to go up? Then replace it?
How about a car with a salvage title? I am not sure the in's and out's of this approach in terms of the geometry of the car being correct.
The intent of this car would ultimately be a stripped out track/weekend car for when I feel like pretending I'm a race car driver. The GTI would remain my daily unless the weather were very nice and I were in one of my moods
Thanks.

the more under $10k the better

on thet other hand I will be able to pick up a semi used one for real cheap if anything ever happens to this one
I know the downside to cheaper is more people ruining the car with stupid glowlight kits.
But the upside is, I get a car I can turn into a weekend/track car that will always put a smile on my face. I need to have more discussion with the misses. I think she'd go for $10k, but def no more. Sometimes I wish I'd never traded my S in, but I drive 70-110 miles a day and I needed something bigger with more airbags

I picked up an 01 for 12.5k with only 52k miles on it. A years worth of depreciation can drive the value of 00 and 01 that low. Sad thing here you're obviously missing your old s too much to be thinking about a car that you won't be purchasing for another year.
