The issue with doing your own work on a Boxster is that the engine is very difficult to get to compared to other cars in the class.

It’s not though. The panel behind the seats makes 99% of the access easy. Plugs and oil changes are easy with the flat engine from under the car.

major services, should you need one like pulling the engine apart would be a PITA but the engines are so reliable that this is definitely the exception.

The thing with diy work on German cars is they are more expensive to maintain for a reason. More complicated, more room for error, more consequences for any errors, more difficult to do otherwise simple tasks. Specialized tools.

Working on cars is fun. Working on German cars is work.

Bigger brakes, more tire, more composure, just more grown up. The mid engine balance is to die for (yeah, I know, I know, the s2000 is also "mid-engined" - trust me, it's not the same). Drawbacks: it's not a convertible. It will cost more to own and operate.
Well, it sounds as if you can afford the maintenance then go with the Boxter

I don't know, to me this sure looks like a pain: Accessing the Engine (I was surprised by the statement that only about half of the people attending his tech sessions had actually seen the engines in their cars.) Watching videos of DIY maintenance paints a more telling picture. Personally I would not call this easy access as far as maintenance tasks are concerned, especially when compared to the S2000.

But I can imagine that for some, these types of things are tempered by their passion for the car. That's something I can't argue with. If I really wanted a Boxster (or Cayman) then I'm sure that I would just learn to deal with this sort of stuff as needed.

The I was looking at the S2000, 987 Spyder, and the Z3/Z4m. I was close to buying a perfect 2002 Z3m, it was difficult to find many Spyders for sale. In the end I decided on the S2000 because I had 2 local ones for sale that fit my criteria and I figured worst case I drive it for several years and I can always sell it for about what I paid.

I love the car, just bought Volks I’m keeping this for a little while!!!

I keep changing my thoughts for my next toy, right now I’m thinking Mercedes AMG GT or Viper, see what happens.
