Having a new key made, whats the process?

Can I buy a key somewhere online and take it somewhere to be made? I assume our keys have immobilizersin them?

I looked on hondaautomotiveparts.com, but no luck.

Do I need to visit my honda dealership to have it made, if so, what does it cost?

I would "like" to have an s2000 key, just like the original one, I'm sure my Honda dealership has a few laying around?

I believe our keys have the "immobilization" you're talking about.

If you want the S2000 logo key, expect to pay 200-300 for it. The generic Honda key is a lot cheaper [obviously] but everybody will assume you drive a Civic :p . Since you got your car used, if it's from another dealership, ask them to foot the bill for the extra key since they're supposed to give you two.

Take the key you have to the dealer. They have a machine that they put your key in one slot and the new key in the other slot and it copies the code to the new key. They charged me $25 including the key.

The key has the immobilizer chip built in. When I had a key made at the dealer they informed me that there are 2 styles available: 1 for $25 and 1 for $150 which is the metallic sided upgrade key. Seeing I already had the upgrade key I couldn't see spending $150 for a new one. I know some lock smiths now are advertising that they can supply programmable keys for much less so you might want to check around. Good Luck.

You can buy the "nice" key for around 120.00 online. Some dealers will cut it and program it for free, but expect to pay around 50 bucks for this.

I had same problem with my 06, only one key. The dealer wanted something like 180 for the key and another 70 to program it. I would rather spend the $250 on mods than keys.

Solution.
Since my main need for the extra key was in case I accidentally lock them in the car or trunk, I had the dealer cut two dummy keys that only open the doors and trunk. I keep one at home and have the other hidden under the car. Total cost was less than $10.
