I worked the headrest speakers into the deal when I purchased my '04 last year. Therefore, I didn't pay near the full $400 for them.
Personally, I love the speakers. They make a tremendous difference when cruising the highway with the top down. Also, each headrest has two speakers -- a left and a right. This gives you stereo sound, even when you cannot hear the right-side speakers.
Keeping a clean and stock look was extremely important to me. I didn't want to cut into the plastic behind the seats and I didn't want to fill the holes in the roll bars with speakers/inserts. I've kept the stock head unit, so installation of the headrest speakers was a slam dunk. In the trunk, I've added an Alpine amp and JL Audio 12" sub in a trunk toolwell enclosure.
Overall, I've very happy with my system. However, there are a few other options that fellow clubmembers swear by.
Taco that iPod mount is super bitchin'!!! Great idea!

D'oh!
When I added the pics, I thought they were shots of the headrest speakers (for some reason, I cannot see the images in my albums -- they appear as 'Xs'). I'll try to find the headrest speaker pics.
Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I fabricated the iPod holder for the center glovebox with supplies from the local crafts store -- template plastic, black elastic, black material, spray glue, etc. I don't know how I ever survived without the iPod in my car!
How do you control the iPod? I noticed you have some sort of connection hooked up to it. Mind sharing the details of that setup with other s2k + iPod owners? :]
After doing a pretty decent lengthed search on this site, I was still planning on adding them to my car. I could accept that they added a little, but not tons for $400. But when I saw the dealer's pricing list for accesories after installation, I realized there were MUCH better things to spend $800 and change on. I know $800 isn't that much money when you're buying a $30k+ car, but still. A couple threads mention the S pods, they sound like a great alternative. Better sound, cheaper price.
