Hey Loki!
hah! Don't ask!
First time on the track in a car and 3rd day with the S2000... an exciting combination to say the least!
Got a tire off in turn 3 going in a bit hot on the first few laps (still learning the course).. then I got quasi-black flag for not having my face sheild down.... sheesh.
The first real black flag for me happened on turn 10 as you come down the hill and do that sharp left... late braked, then got on the gas too early... the rear slooooowly but surely squeeled around and pitched my front two tires into the dirt. Very controlled and didn't freaked me in the least... just thought to myself, "okay... that was a little too much gas" and just waited till it was over. Good thing the black M3 behind me was attentive.
That was all in the first few sesssions... after that I followed rode with my friend in the M Coupe who's been there quite a few times, then followed an instructer in a white porsche. After that and lunch I found myself being alot smoother and faster and was able to take quicker lines as I learned the course and began to learn what the car likes.
Just as I was really getting into it I had to jet back to the city for a dinner appointment.... weather was great for 90% of the way so I had the top down. Thank goodness there we no vipers breathing down my neck on Hwy5 as well!
How did you guys fare? Some of you were booking it pretty good that I had to wave you by!
cheers,
-loki
p.s. what sort of speeds were you getting on the back and front straights? I got about 100 on the back and 105-110 on the front... it was hard to break out of motorcycle mode of riding fast, my entry and exits speeds are all different!

How do your tires look? Didn't you have an instructor with you (that would tell you the rules...ie..faceshield...).
I don't recall the faceshield being an issue where i go (summit point in WV). lots of people (old people) use the non-full-face helmets there.??
Is the Stook faster than the bike? (joke).

Only dealt with the instructors in the later sessions... basically they just wanted to bring me in and say put it down. If I had the top up, you can have the facesheild open. Next time I have to put my clear one back out since I usually ride with a smoke visor.
The tires had 1700mis when I got on the track, after 130miles of track time they had about a1/8" of built up burnt rubber following the grooves of the tire after each session. Not sure how much it decreased tire life but there's still plenty of tread.
I can't wait for Sears Point in Febuary!

Loki...
I see you are from SF. I live in the east bay. I was curious what track you were at when you were racing the S2k. I have been itching to get my car out to a track but I dont have any knowledge of what I need to do our which tracks will even allow it. Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

This event was hosted by NASA, here is their website... you'll have to join first, then sign up in advance for the trackdays if you want to avoid a late entry fee.
This last one was at Thunderhill Park, about 120miles north/east of S.F. The next one Sears Point Raceway in Vallejo in Febuary.
