So I'm sitting at this red light today when out of no where the truck behind me decides that he wants to hit the gas. The guy smacks into me pretty bad. I pull over and so does he. The front of his truck is mashed in a few inches. He loooks at my car. Not a scratch on it. He was amazed and so was I. Here's his bid bad Silverado and my puny little yellow roadster and he is the one with the dent. I got his info just in case.

The bumper is just a thin plastic cover -- that's why they call it a bumper cover. :) You should remove it and check it out underneath. You may find damage to the metal bumper itself. The plastic part is just a shell that might just spring back into place without showing the damage underneath.

Yes, have it checked out for sure!

Wasn't there a report recently that stated that many of the trucks/SUVs faired very poorly in bumper collisions? I remember something about that trucks/SUVs are exempt from the regulations governing car bumper strengths. At the time I got a big chuckle, because so many people probably bought these monster vehicles thinking they would be safer. Anyone confirm/deny this rumor/report?

I idled into the back of a Ford Van (full size) in my 93 Prelude Si and it caused her $600.00 bumper to basically collapse. It did make a small mark on the bra of my car though. Must have something to do with my car being so much lighter than a full size Ford van.
