Default Hood Corrosion?

Hi folks,

I have what I think is some corrosion near the front edge of the hood (2004). I've confirmed hood is original and aluminum. 99% sure it hasn't been repainted. Did a search but didn't see anything that looked liked this is a typical S2000 problem. This was on the hood from when I bought it about a year ago and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. Car stays dry and garaged now...not sure about its pervious life, but overall the car is very clean with no other unusual corrosion on the body or the under carriage.

Thoughts?
Thanks - KC2K

Yeah, looks like aluminum contamination under the paint

This happens a lot on Ford trucks too. My Expedition has it bad.

Apparently, there is some sort of contaminant that can get onto the aluminum before paint, during transit. If not properly cleaned, this is what happens

Never seen it on a S2000. But...maybe your car was affected.

First incident I've seen this reported. I suspect this is the result of repair damage followed by bad or insufficient primer. A good detailer or body shop can measure the paint thickness and probably tell if it's been repainted or if this is "OEM."

The paint peeled off the aluminum lift gate on my 2007 Expedition in [exaggeration]12"x12" sheets[/exaggeration]. Bad priming over the aluminum. Flat grey metal underneath the black paint so I carried a rattle can of black gloss paint for the periodic touch-ups.

Thanks for the responses. I'll just keep and eye on it and hope it doesn't get any worse. Although my experience with rust and corrosion is that it ALWAYS gets worse!!!

Its not corrosion. Its contamination. Dirt under paint.

Dirt does not replicate. Does not grow. Its not gonna get worse. Its been like that since the very moment it was painted.

i have seen this on multiple s2000's i have worked on over the years. i know the main hood panel is aluminum, but are all the edges/frame structure and striker area of it where its stamped together aluminum as well? im not currently by one to check the front edges with a magnet? i would assume its all 100% aluminum but never checked

Well it will get worse from the standpoint that the paint in that area is going to come off the car eventually, but it should not spread at least. But where it is blistered will eventually flake off.
