How Much Does the F20C Weigh?
Anyone know? Curious.

I did know at one time, it is somewhere between 300-400 lbs. I think.:)

the engine is about 350lbs with the headers attached. read your owners manual for the exact weight

326 lbs.

Is it true that our engines weigh more than that of a Z06?
I think I may have read that on this site. It has something to do with the complexity of the Vtec system (Not to mention how simple a GM pushrod V 8 is). I may be wrong, but think this would be a good conversation starter. |
I wouldn't doubt that the weights are similar.

Not really that close. The weight of 326 lbs for the F20C is fully dressed (alternator, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, etc.). There is actually a good technical PDF floating around that specifies all the component weights in the F20C - it looks like some sort of document Honda put together for gov't certification.
I've seen weight specs for the LS1 ranging from 390 lbs (for a race engine, uncertain if dressed) 185 kg (410 lbs) from Holden in Australia (again, uncertain if the engine was dressed). But nothing precise. I do know that Chevy claims the bare block (no crank) weighs a hair under 49 kg or about 110 lbs. Certainly light for a V8 with that sort of power, but nowhere near an F20C. In terms of power density, the LS1 is quite good. On just engine weight alone, its probably equal to or better than an F20C, and on total drivetrain weight (engine, tranny, diff, driveshafts) its probably still near equal. I think the LS1 engine with similar dressings as the 326 lb. F20C is around 450. That's what I've been told by several domestic folks over at car and driver.
