I Need Advice ASAP
on the off chance something does happen.. are you going to be happy with having made a decision based upon this... maybe I'm over thinking this, but.. an 06.. w/ 80k... and you could get 3 years covered... yes... maybe nothing happens.. I bought mine at 78k.. things happened, they did not cost me much, well under the aforementioned by others $300 mark, I got help from friends in this club, which kept costs way down.. but.. things happen.. other people have had stories of things happening.. I do not know what all your warranty would include, you stated a friend had an almost OEM bumper to bumper concept.. I do not know, if I was buying mine all over, and they offered me an extended warranty, if I would have taken it... I can't offer you any advice.. good luck...
you guys are great. i have never purchased a warranty before (other than an included cop on a 330i i had), but i always ask the best forum for their perspective before i complete my decision. i think i'll skip it and roll the dice!
thanks, guys!
thanks, guys!
Warranties are legalized gambling. The warranty companies wouldn't be in business if the "house" didn't win most of the time. If I had purchased a warranty on every car I've owned, I would have spent enough money to purchase a whole car. I don't gamble.
are there ofte problems w the roof mechanics? there's no pre-existing issues: the car must be brought to new specs before they sell it. i'm currently in the 5-day grace period and i'm already having stuff fixed like the loose rear-view mirror, suuper sluggish driver's window, dome light doesn't stay on in "door" mode, the xm radio won't give me an ESN, etc.
Seriously put that $1800 in a savings account and use it for repairs coming up in the future. Warranty is a waste. You could blow your tranny and use that money to pick up another one. Think Carmax will cover a transmission issue? Maybe but probably not. Or a differential issue. Or whatever else. not to mention if you have CASH, you can use for anything else. Don't need repairs, use it to pay off the car. Buy mods, etc. You can also pay for "wear and tear" items like a new clutch or soft top but carmax most likely wont cover those stuff which is actually something that a lot of S2ks require.
1. 4 yrs. ago I bought an $1800 warranty on my 04 S with only 9k miles on it b/c of 2nd and 3rd gear "notchiness" and I didn't know anything about these cars.
2. After getting online and reading about them, and finding out the 2nd and 3rd gear thing was "normal" for the car, and since there were so few miles, I got a refund w/i the grace period.
3. After having mine for 4 yrs., I have paid out nothing for repairs, just fluids, but mine has few miles.
4. If your car drives out straight, brakes straight, no strange noises, you won't be paying $1800 in repairs.
5. Normal stuff like brakes aren't included, so unless your radiator gets a hole in it, which they wouldn't repair if it was a road hazard, listen to the "bullet proof" admonition.
6. When you read how these cars are driven hard and have over 200k miles on them, it blows your mind; I even think there is a thread now on over 300k miles: must be a Honda!
7. Believe me, I'm very conservative, and don't take chances: pass is my recommendation also.
8. You may send me a check now for 10% of the $1800 for professional services!
