I voted for the car I have - 08 CR. It replaced my 06 S. I definitely miss the convenience of the soft top. That's the one and only con; all other differences are in the CR's pro column. I usually don't care for wings on cars, but it just 'works' on the CR. With the top on or off, the CR looks better to my brain. The 06 was a blast to drive. The CR is even better. Each change on its own probably doesn't amount to much, but the package is simply marvelous. I like the seat material in the CR better too. Nobody will ever be buying mine - - damn fine car!

I say 09. Do you plan to mod either one at all? If so you will most likely be changing out the CR "upgrades"
If you plan to do coilovers, your paying a lot extra for the CR suspension. Sway bars are almost the same as the 00,01 oem sway bars as well which are cheap and readily available.
No soft top would kill it for me as well. One of the big pros to this car imo.
Pretty much a win win decision regardless though. Good luck on your hunt!

I have owned 3 standard s2000's and 1 CR. If you can only have one car the normal model is just a better daily to live with. However, if you are going to use this for a weekend car don't even think twice about the CR. Its not just a couple upgrades, its a lot of small upgrades that really tighten up the whole package. Everything that over time bothered me about my s2000's and I tried to fix (never was overall as good as a CR) is already setup perfect from the factory.

It is just a very special automobile. Do yourself a favor and spend a couple minutes in the CR forum. There is a lot of great educational material in there. After while you will start to get an idea of the differences and if its the right car for you. I have not heard anyone that has ever driven one complain. The nay-Sayers always seem to be those that know the least about the car

Can't you just install a soft top on the CR?

No. In the way is the CR brace and the cover. Forgot to add the seats that are also in a CR, vs a normal s2.
