For the first time in 16 months of ownership, last week I took my S2000 on a long trip to west Texas. Prior to this, I had only driven it on short trips within the Austin area or a couple hundred miles to my parents' house in San Angelo.

My main complaint about the trip isn't regarding the car, but my Colgan bra. I like the fit and finish of the bra and the protection that it provides, but the damn thing balloons up over the headlights (WAY up at 80 mph into a 30-40 mph wind. Colgan seems unable or unwilling to do anything about it - what are my alternatives? I seem to remember someone here put some clear plastic into the headlight openings...that would seem to solve the ballooning AND keep the headlights clean.

After tipping the driver's seat back with washers (an idea I got here), the seat provides more thigh support for my long legs. My back only began getting tired at the end of the trip. The car's various noises (engine, tranny) were tolerable even though weather forced me to make most of the trip with the top up. Regarding the top, when I got back I noticed some slack in the top material which showed up as longitudinal ridges that over the last day have disappeared. This could be due to making the return trip in a stiff headwind - this also reduced my gas mileage to under 20 mpg. The car used no oil on the trip (mine never has used any oil).

I got many looks while traveling through many back-woodsey small towns. The twisty mountain roads near Fort Davis were GREAT! For the first time I noticed tire powder on the rear end of the car. I also watched it rollover to 10,000 miles. Cool.

Sounds like a great trip. I'd like to make the trip out through Fort Davis and down through the Big Bend country and along the Rio Grande. Maybe someday I will!

Kevin,

Spectre first posted aobut having the Colgan bra modified with the clear plastic. I found a place in NY to have it done for about $60.00. Works great!
