Is this Legal???
The law states that the plate must be visible from the front of the car, and no more than 3 feet off the ground. (this is in NY mind you) The s2000 dash is 2feet 11.9inches from the ground. (seriously). So, make your own conclusions.
I agree with NFRs2000NYC's reply. NJ law is the same. It is interesting to read the actual Motor Vehicle Statues. Nowhere does it say the license plate MUST be on the front bumper. It simply states it must be no more than x inches of the ground and no less than x inches and clearly visible from the front.
However, be prepared to go to court to defend your position. Undoubtedly, you will get an officer who will ticket you and simply tell you to tell it to the judge.
NJ statues are at www.njleg.state.nj.us/html/statutes.htm
Your state's statues are probably at a simliarly named location, just try replacing your state abbreviation where the NJ is in the above link. Can't guarantee it will work, but you can give it a try. Then print off the applicable statute and keep it with you in the car for when you get pulled over. You never know.

all you guys are correct, but did you see where lalaspanda lives??? LOL..... I would say drive without it until you get a ticket for it, then pay the 10 dollar fine and put it on...... In cali, its up in the air as to when you will get a ticket for that, kind of like window tint. I know by irvine, newport or huntington you can get nabbed quick for no front plate.
In Washington the front plate must be vertical, uncovered and within x distance of the front of the vehicle.
Inside your windshield would be:
1. Too far back = illegal
2. Behind glass = illegal
3. Angled = illegal

I live in California and I haven't had a front license plate on my car in years. I've been stopped plenty of times over the years (for various perceived and real infractions), but never for that. I think you should just leave it off until you are stopped. You may get a fix-it ticket some day, but that is easily taken care of.
I've never had front plates on any of my cars. Haven't run into any problems yet. I even got pulled over once for my headlights being too bright, the cop went to the front of the car to take down my lic plate #....didn't find one...went to the back and took it down. Didn't say a word about the front. It just varies.

looks soo much better without that stupid plate
