Default Looking at a 2008. Was there a serial # range for engine issues?

Hello from Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

I'm currently looking at a 2008 S2000, Canadian Car, Apex Blue (it's not a CR model, Apex Blue was available in Canada as a regular color in 2008) with 14,000 kms.

Since it's a such a low mileage car, would the thrust bearing "engine death rattle" have had a chance to present itself?

From what I have read on this website, it seems like most of the problems were with the 2009 models, but I have read some issues with the 2008's as well.

Is there a serial # range for 2008 with these issues?

Unfortunately, this car is located in a city with no Honda dealership and the nearest one is a 4 hr drive away so it's tough to get a Honda inspection done.

Thanks for any help or assistance with this.

James

Is this the thread you are referencing? https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/876...ust+bearing%22

I think this problem only afflicted late model F20s (that North America did not get). The car you're considering has an F22.

Look for the threads on what to look for when buying an S2000. If you follow those guidelines, you should not need a Honda dealer.

The last place you want to have an inspection done is a Honda dealer. Most don't know the first thing about these cars. This forum has more knowledge about this car than you will ever find at any dealer anywhere ever.

There is little that Honda corporate has sent to Honda dealers that is not known on this forum, and this forum has many members with far more wrench time on these cars than any Honda dealer mechanic. Add to that most dealers don't really care.

Try to find a local S owner to take with you to inspect, or a good independent shop to bring it to.
