The 04-05 is the way to go. I would never buy an 06+ due to the crappy returnless fuel system that does not support much power and the crappy drive by wire throttle system.

Or an AP1 and enjoy spinning it up to 9k RPM...

I personally don't really care that an AP2 is a few tenths of a second faster here or there under acceleration - a stockish NA S2000 is kinda slow these days no matter what engine it has, and at least for me I remember being enamored by the F20C1 when it was just released in '99.

But in general, there's no "right" model to get, they're all good, and had some slight tweaks to them over the production run. Just find one you like and go for it. I also don't subscribe to just buying some super low mileage garage queen unless you're also going to make it nothing more than a garage queen. It's a Honda, it's not like these things fall apart at 100k miles. I actually like that mine has some more miles on it, so I don't feel bad modding it.

Lol, mine is making 650whp on E85 and a stock rail.

Drive by wire is awesome, which is why all manufacturers have switched over to it. Do you think electronic fuel injection is crappy too and prefer carburetors? You spread so much misinformation that its hard to not get frustrated.

anyone that want to make over 500whp or wants to run E85 have to change the crappy 06+ s2000 style returnless fuel system to an 00-05 style return fuel system. If your making that much power you would know that.

All you have to do is throw a fuel pump in the stock hanger, add a return fitting on the hat, and add a dead headed FPR. I know because that's all I have done at 650+. Regardless of the year when you run out of pump you have to go to a dual pump hanger.

The little stuff you get on 06+ makes the difference for me. It seems silly, but I feel the 06+ is a decent step up in modernity compared to 05. I love the seats, the extra storage, the wheels, VSA is nice to have for a 365 daily driver, you get a clock and outside temp guage, speakers in the headrests, DRLs etc. I've had 3 06/07s and I couldn't see going to anything older. An 08/09 is nice, but they're far rarer and costlier without much changed aside from a cluster and model year on the title. I also like the 06/07 seats more than 08/09.

IMO the 04-05 were the best years for the s2000. The DBW cars don't feel the same when you are driving them. The s2000 was meant to be a driver's car. The only thing that could take away from that was the EPS, but they got that right from the get go. Every subsequent update made the car less and less a driver's car. Changing to a 2.2 made the engine less rev happy. Then, adding DBW and VSA took even more away from the experience. The reason I say 04-05 vs 00-03 is that they updated the engine and made them more reliable for harder driving, even though the redline came down. The later ones also seem to have a higher occurrence of the thrust washer/bearing failures.

All said and done they are all great cars though.
