I am considering doing a beginner track day at my local track:
NJMP Track Days | New Jersey Motorsports Park

In learning about the technical requirements, I wanted to make sure the S2000 meets the following before I sign up for an event:

- Convertibles must have permanent rollover protection as mandated by Chapter 62 Race Track Regulations
- Convertibles: Driver and instructor must pass broom stick test with helmet on.

Place a broom stick (or any long ruler) between the top of the windshield and the highest point of the roll bar. Your helmet must be under that line.

Oh, I'm sure I'll pass the broomstick test by several inches at least. But what do they mean by "permanent rollover protection?" I'm assuming that because the S2000 has rollover protection stock and fixed to the car that it meets their definition of "permanent." I just wasn't sure if any kind of special rollover protection was needed above and beyond stock.

Thanks - I figured that TONS of people take bone stock S2000's on track days and the website was just full of scary stuff written by lawyers, rather than plain English.

I registered for a day next month and I can't wait! Years ago, I used to do a bunch of track days on my bikes, but I've actually never taken a car to the track. Should be a blast!

Yeah roll bar (hard dog) should come before tires. Not a lot of venues will allow you to run without an aftermarket roll bar.

I'm going to give myself the broomstick test tonight. I should've done it before signing up, duh. I might have to put the seat back and slouch a bit. If I can't make it work, I think the registration fees are non-refundable, so I'll just take my 340i instead. It won't be as fun as the S, but it will still be a blast.

Interesting, I'd heard of one track back east like that, but didn't know it was the norm. Never had an issue out West.

So I can pass the broomstick test if I move my seat forward an recline the back a bit. I'm wondering if I could pass the test like this, then return my set to a more preferred driving position for the event, after pre-check is over.
