Miata upgrade to S2000?

Wondering if the S2k owners who have owned a miata are happier with the S2k. I am a current Miata owner, and I love it. I am thinking I would really love another hundred horses and the dual exhaust and I am pretty excited about the V-tech. I drove an integra gsr years ago and really loved the V-tech in that car. The point is that I love the way the Miata handles at higher speeds 70 - 110.

Any folks out there that have had the chance to drive thousands of spirited miles in both vehicles, what car makes you happier? I don't really care to bash the Miata - I love it. Mine is a 99 blue mica with tan leather only 20k miles on it, but they have been a blast.
:eek2: Thanks

One of my relatives owns a Miata, a 2001 model, and although I haven't driven it thousands of miles, I have driven it hundreds of miles with her. There's a big difference between them both.

Question is, do you want a real sporty car, or do you want a real sports car?

I too was a Miata owner 95 White/Black. It was a great little car.

i have driven both... not thousands of miles, but enough to compare-
my opinion:
i felt "too small" in the miata, but dont have the same feeling in the s. (i was cut-off more often in the miata).
both cars handle well, but the s handles well under power also. the miata does not (imo) have the option of handling under power. definitely a fun car to drive, but not the same when you consider the h.p. difference.
i also like the unique stylying of the s, and the fact that they are still not too common (although this is slowly changing).
and the miata does not have vtec!!!
the miata gets better gas mileage, but thats not something that i really care much about.

The miata has a softer feel than the S2000. It is not nearly as fast, where the Miata's engine gives out the S2000 is coming alive. Something should also be said about Honda quality and reliability. In the Miata my forehead stuck up over the windshield and I felt cramped (6'3" tall), the S2000 is also tight but I seem to fit much better. I think of my old Miata as a economy version of the S2000, a bit more soft, practicle, understated design and so on. I get 100x more attention in the S2000. If you can't live with the attention keep your miata. It is insane, everyone wants to race, know what kind of car it is, they wave and hoot and hollar about how great your car is. If you are in the mood it can be fun.

I had a 99 miata. Put 42k miles on it. Yes i loved that car.
Then i decided to step up to the plate and get the S. Man what a difference. I compare the miata to a nice sweet girl and the S to a porn star. The S does everything the miata does only faster and better. Just my 2 cents. But then again spend 5k, slap a Flying Miata turbo on the miata then you got some stiff competition.

I would consider the Miata a sportscar and the S2000 a race car. There is that big of difference in my opinion between them -- assuming both are stock. There are compromises you have to make, the biggest I would say is in the area of handling. The Miata is more forgiving. The second is acceleration, with the S2000 coming alive at 6000 rpms. If you are comfortable really pushing your Miata at the limit, then you should really enjoy the S2000. But if you are more at home with a nice drive in the cournty, then I think you'd be better off with the Miata.

The '02 Miata is pleasant, whereas the S2000 is exhilerating. The Miata is is wobbly over even slight road bumps, whereas the structural rigidity of the S2000 is phenomenal. The shifter in the Miata is no where near as smooth as the magazines say, the S2000's is even more precise. The '02 Miata's engine feels a lot like a mid-80s Civic, the S2000's feels and sounds like a Japanese racing bike on 4 wheels. The more time you spend with a Miata the more you notice where corners have been cut to save money.

Thanks, all who replied. I appreciate the affirmation of my desires. Now I need to buy one. I am going to wait for the 2003 white/tan and not pay over sticker....
