Missing A Shift At 9000 RPM's...

What a nightmare it must be to miss a shift at 9000 RPM's. Has any one out there had this happen? I've got almost 6000 miles on the S2k without going the limit yet.

Missing shift and not getting a gear (@9K) is no big deal (except for the embarrassment factor). Missing a shift and slamming it into a lower gear will get you more than one of these: :yikes:

Yeah, the rev limiter will save you if you screw up an upshift. Unfortunately, the rev limiter can't save you from a mechanical overrev which is what happens on a missed downshift into too low of a gear.

the only thing wrong with that is , as xviper said , the embarresment
surely , you must be joking about the never been to 9000rpm thing?

I've got 4500 miles on the car, 3 months old, and I've only been to 8500rpm once, maybe 2x. I don't think it's a big deal. all the mechanicals are moving in exactly the same places, just 500 rpm slower than redline.

I do believe this motor needs to be "exercised"-- that is, brought into VTEC regularly, but I don't think hitting 9000rpm is necessary for proper engine maintenance. maybe for proper spirited driving, but I don't think the engine "needs" to hit 9000rpm regularly. that's kinda silly, IMHO.

I am open to correction on this, but my logic tells me what I just said above.

i haven't hit redline yet and i have ~3k miles. highest i've been is probably 8500 rpm. but i do vtec daily.
