Default More BHP ?

Are honda forced to release the 2.2litre engine for 2002/03?

Honda's competetors have been producing more HP, after the S2000 was released. Now 240 BHP is pretty standard but still pretty impresive from a 2 litre power plant.

What does everyone thinks?

I doubt if the engine will change anytime very soon.

I highly doubt the engine will change for 2002.

What about a S3200 with the V6 from the Type-S motor thats in the Aurca CL. Of course, we would demand more horsepower than 260 hp that the S-Type Aurca has but it would be a good start. I would settle for just a 100 hp per liter, 320 hp with more torque. It will never happen but hey, who cares when you can drive a S2000 everyday.

You guys are missing the whole point of the S2000. It's not just about horsepower. The S2000 is as close to a perfectly balanced car as it gets. If you start throwing in a 6 cyl. that weighs twice as much, it's an entirely different car. If you want to go faster buy the SC or go some other forced induction route that will not significantly alter the cars balance.

Honda's original intention with the S2K was to use a 2.0 liter in a 2 seat roadster. They'll stick with it for a few years to come.

Sure, they could give it 300+ HP, but then it'd be a 40k car rather than a 32k one.

The car's already a "good deal", but I wouldn't hold your breath on them making it an even better one. It seems that we're seeing the beginnings of a horsepower war in all car categories. Nissan alone is going to put tremendous pressure on everyone. I just don't see the S2000 increasing... and if they do, it'll follow the pattern of the NSX... slightly increasing power with greatly increasing cost.

I believe that I read in the thread about the trip to Japan, that they will be sticking wih the 2.0 liter engine.

Does this car really need more horsepower?? I mean it is already so perfectly balanced and agile - that I really wouldnt want to beef it up. Remember a bigger engine will add weight all around - stronger chassis, bigger brakes - weight really adds up.

I think this car is perfect the way it is. Some people say they would accept a lower redline for more torque down low. I sure as hell wouldn't - 9K RPM is part of this cars character ......... But hey to each his own!

Yes, and for quite some time apparently (~10 yr. model run).
