Is My Car the Last Takanezawa S2000?
I am taking delivery today of the Silverstone and Red/Black S2000 I ordered back in February. Its vin number indicates it is the 6000th S2000 produced by the plant this year.
Does anyone know how many cars were built at Takanezawa this year before production shifted to Suzuka? I'm wondering whether mine could be the last of the hand-assembled S2000s.... Cheers, Rick |
Heh. You'd have to ask somebody who works at Takanezawa to find that one out.
Possibly if Honda News model production reports show the exact same YTD production numbers two months in a row, we'll know how many were produced before the factory switch. But the US isn't the only country S2000s are produced for, and there's no telling which country is getting the last Takanezawa models. |
That sounds like a good approach.
Thanks. |
but Takanezawa said they'd never make another S2000 :p

I seem to recall that one of the letters/numbers in the VIN is supposed to represent the factory. Not sure though. I'll check it when I get home.

Found what I was looking for. Note the "T" for Takanezawa. See if yours has the same factory code, Rick:
J HM Japan/Honda (WMI) AP1 S2000/F20C1 1 2-dr Convertible 6-speed manual 4 Base Model G (check digit) Y 2000 (year) (1= 2001) T Tochigi (plant) <---- This is what you want to look for 000288 sequential number (the build number) |
Sweet, now I know. Mine's made in Takanezawa and it's numba 6987 :D
|
Yeah, I have that "T" alright....
|
Yeah. I wonder what new factory code they'll use for the Suzuka plant. Probably "S." How appropriate! ;)
