Default My cat stuttered today, any ideas why?

I was slowing down and downshifted to 2nd. once i stepped on the gas my car began to stutter so I took it out of gear then put it back in 2nd and it was back to normal. Any ideas why this happened?

I had the same problem the other day but in first gear. I figured i was not giving enough gas. I'll try getting a new tank of gas and see if that works.

Probably the map sensor. Tap it lightly with a screwdriver and see if the problem comes back.

Actually this is a new tank of gas but I did use fuel injector cleaner with it. Where is map sensor located? Do I screw it on tighter or just tap it?

If you introduced a new variable (fuel injector cleaner) don't do anything until you burn all of that gas. Once that's gone, then re-evaluate the situation.

S2Kay - no slam intended but are you sure you caught 2nd? If you had slowed way down and caught 4th, you would have probably experienced the stuttering you described.

Boiler has a good point. This has happened to me several times in the past when I bought bad gas (with another car I owned). The more you lug the engine, the worse it stutters. It was especially bad going uphill in mountains. Ironically, it happened to me only when using premium fuel. I suspect that because the underground storage tanks at the gas station don't go through as much gas, they could get some moisture. There is also the chance that you got some gas mixed with diesel or diluted with crude oil. There was a special on TV a few years ago showing how this happens more than you think. Because we have high compression engines in our S2K, we are more vulnerable to problems with bad gas.
